A friend who's private blog I'm lucky enough to read recently made a list of "been there, done thats." It was lengthy and impressive, filled with meaningful things she had done in foreign lands. Quite frankly, I was blown away. It was no surprise, though; she has always seemed wise beyond her years. And of course, like a typical female, I inadvertently started comparing myself to her and her list. Foreign lands? Tijuana. Does that count?
So I made my own list of twenty "been there, done thats". Some are meaningful, most aren't and they definitely all happened right here in the land of Wal-Marts and Wonder Bread.
1.I have pushed out two babies. Can I get an "Ew, gross!" from all the guys in the house?
2.I have eaten sea weed off of a sandy shore.
3.I have vomitted in the bathroom of a Kentucky Fried Chicken after eating sea weed off of a sandy shore.
4.I have seen the smoke plumes of the World Trade Center in person from the streets of NYC, minutes after they fell.
5.I have sat beside too many hospital beds.
6.I have been a "model" at a fitness convention in Chicago, riding a spin bike for over two hours straight.
7.I have performed a Mary Katherine Gallagher act on stage. Twice.
8.I have seriously been asked how many other wives my husband has.
9.I have fled several retirement centers in various stages of panic.
10.I have flirted my way out of a $75 library fine.
11.I have swam in the ocean with my clothes on in February.
12.I have almost gotten hypothermia driving home from Newport Beach with sopping wet clothes in February in an old VW that had no heat.
13. I have pushed my dead VW van through many an intersection.
14.I have beat my youngest BIL in Speed, Scrabble, MasterMind, Spit and Ping Pong. Yah, that's what I said, Coulter. Boo yah.
15.I have crashed my hand through a window during church.
16.I have donated 14 inches of my hair to Locks of Love.
17.I have had my bottom pinched by an old man.
18.I have started several food fights.
19.I have 10.1 days worth of music on our iTunes.
20.I have conquered my fear of karoake and was 0% drunk while I did it.

You GO GIRL!
17 must be in some relation to #9? That was a great read! You have such a fun life!
Right on girlfriend! How come I never heard about that window breaking incident? I want details!:)
You forgot one: I think of this as a "done that" everytime I'm down near Newport Beach... Somehow, somehow, after getting through the long line of cars leaving the back parking lot of IHS, we were able to jet down the 55 freeway, stop at Baja Fresh just in time for the first batch of chips from the morning to still be hot (they opened at 11:30, which was the same time we got out of school a la block scheduling), park the car, and be on the beach sunbathing by about 12:05. Nowadays it would seem impossible anyway, plus who's done with work at 11:30? I have accomplished much in life, but I still sneak this in as a great one...oh ya, we did it all in a red VW bus that didn't always start right away! WAVE BIG!
Hand through the window at church:
I think I was about 17. I standing around talking in the foyer (nothing has changed) and due to the U-kind of shape of the building, I could see into the open window of my brother's sunday school classroom. Someone got up and shut it. Don't ask me why, I was somewhat irreverant and impulsive (again, nothing has changed) I ran outside, and flat handedly went to bang on the window but my hand went right through. Glass and blood everywhere. What an idiot.
You are my inspiration.
Remember that food fight we had at the garlock reunion. I can't remember if it was in washington or arizona, but I do recall large amounts of cake in our hair, on the floor, and anywhere else you could possible imagine. And we were in college when it happened. College.
...and as a mother and an aunt, I was just so proud.
Ooh! I like it! You find and have the best blogging ideas, you mother blogger!
Love your list. And I'm already planning our cousin karaoke outing the next time we're in the same city. You know the words to "Livin' on a Prayer," right?
Some thoughts:
-Heathe, how did I forget that my old license plate read "Wave Big?" I completely forgot about that.
-Leigh, I'm recalling a food fight involving cake at the Andersen lodge the first time. We were, what? 19 years old? 20? Sadly, this wasn't the first food fight I started in college. The details are fuzzy but I believe Elizabeth and I may or may not have gotten escorted out of the Cannon Center covered in just about every item offered at the buffet...And, Leigh, didn't you and I start some kind of fight when you were visiting one summer at some guy's pool party in high school or middle school? I have this vision of you fully clothed, flying through the air and landing in his pool. You may or may not have been pushed by me...Again the details are fuzzy.
-And Taryn: You. Me. "I've Had the Time of My Life."
Wow. I wish we could hang out.
I LOVE THIS IDEA! SOOOO FUN!
Honestly, why would you have to go to far away lands to acomplish GREAT things? Maybe someday, but until then. Your list is GREAT!
Annie,, all i can say is in your dreams, and you know im right, i am the true champion, you can't defeat me.
That was quite the list! And I am sorry I missed seeing #7 and I think flirting your way out of a $75 fine is impressive!
I remember that hand through the window at church incident. My personal favorite songs to sing are Madonna & Cher. Give them a whirl for me.
Your list definitely trumps mine! Today at the library I could not even talk my way out of a $25 fine. I have a lot to learn from you.
By the way, your wise compliment (if it was directed at me?), was much appreciated. You are too kind.
This is such a fun idea, I'm going to steal it! It's always fun to get to know people more and learn of their past; how fun!
Loving this post. Great Idea to journal about. You always make me laugh.
