A couple of things happened when I watched this movie two weeks ago:
1. A truth was manifested. While I think Drew Barrymore is a very interesting and fun gal, I think she's a horrrrrrible actress. Despite only having like 7 lines, Whip It only further solidified this opinion. And it furthered my love for Kristen Wiig. And Ellen Paige. And Marcia Gay Harden. And of course, my Jimmy Fallon. But especially Kristen Wiig.
2. I discovered Dolly Parton. Though I abhor modern country music, there's a part of me that likes old country music--it's folksy. In the movie, there's a great scene with Dolly Parton's Jolene. How rad is this song? It's like old country meets disco.
3. I decided to start collecting globes. During a scene that takes place in a school, off to the side there's about a dozen globes clustered together. I jumped up from the couch and yelled "Oooo! Look at all those globes!" Go burst out laughing, sighed and said "Oh, I love you." If he thinks I'm weird now, just wait until dementia hits in about 60 years. It was then when I decided that I needed to start a collection of globes. Vintage ones, because things are cooler when they're old...like country western music. You like that? Eh? Eh? You like how I brought that around full circle? And did you like THAT? Full circle? Like as in globes? I really out did myself that time.
So I've mentioned this before, but we don't have the expendable income for me to just be, you know, out buying vintage globes or whatever, so I put it in the back of my mind for a rainy day. A day when it be rainin' cash, ya'll!
BUT today, TODAY! we were driving though the country side to pick up the girls from a birthday party. We passed a farmhouse that had a bunch of trash bags and junk sitting out in front of it by the road and what did I see? A blue sphere.
"AHHHH!" I shrieked.
"Wha! Wha! Wha!" Go yelled back, looking around like we had just run over somebody and he hadn't realized it.
"That was globe! On the side of the road!"
"Ohhhh," he said with relief. "You scared me."
"This is so weird! I've been thinking about nothing but globes for like two weeks! This is meant to be! That's my globe! We have to go get it!"
And we did. We flipped a U-ey, talked to the owner and walked away a free vintage globe. I am in love. Not only with my 1954 Replogle globe but with my husband who loves me for my quirks.

Now you've gon n don it. (trying to sound a little bit old timey country) You know now that every birthday and Christmas you will have people buying you all kinds of globes. And you'll be expected to wall paper your kitchen with globe wall paper. I saw this happen to this lady I know only she likes strawberries. eeeeks. You might be safer with globes.
And I just have to add, I love that your bookcase is color coordinated. You don't know how much I love that. You don't. I do my closet like that. And you don't know how much I love it. You don't. You don't. YOU DON'T. (trying to sound a teensy bit Kristen Wiig.)

Wow, that was a major score! I wouldn't of gone and talked the people though, I probably would have just taken it. So after your mom's comment I had to go back and look at your book case to see if it was really color coordinated..., and IT IS!! That is awesome!
Awesome globe Annie! Got to love great finds like that. Your books look rad all color coded like that. You probably hear that all the time, but it's still worth complimenting.

I don't know which I love more-- your new vintage globe or your color coded bookshelf. Very chic!
Too funny, John has done the curb-side pick up, chatting with the owners - for deer mounts! He's very sentimental about old men's treasures and animals who've given their lives. =) He salvaged the plaques for his future mounts and used the antlers for "rattling antlers."
Oh, and "Jolene" - very good song. Hopefully I'm not singing it all during church today.
Globes are getting to be super popular, and you find one for FREE beside the ROAD complete with ATLAS?? Maybe you should start making other wishes, and thinking about them constantly. Maybe a million bucks will just land on your doorstep!
BTW - you have no idea the HECK I went through trying to BUY a globe for Jeff's birthday.

By the way, my books are color coded as well. That was the firs thing I did when we moved into this house. My mom was pretty upset because I hadn't even put the kids clothes into their drawers and I was already at the shelves putting up my books by color. My mother thinks I'm insane, but you understand me.
When I heard that song Jolene while I was about 10 weeks pregnant with Henry, I absolutely loved it that I almost decided to name my un-gendered baby Jolene...
I still might this time around. Hmmm. Dolly rocks.

Yes. Very beautiful. Anyone who gets told they look like her on a regular basis sure is lucky, whether they agree with that assessment or not.
In defense of country music: Any genre that can produce the song "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" has some redeeming merit. Thank you.
i'm not the jealous type... i don't walk around coveting willy nilly (or any other nilly, for that matter) but i likes that globe and i'm a subtle shade of chartreuse right aboat now.(sorry, too much olympics)
